Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about psychoeducation and the services offered by the Psychoéduc-ACTION clinic.
Psychoeducation is a profession that supports people experiencing adjustment difficulties (emotional, behavioural, or social). It helps them better understand the challenges they face and develop concrete strategies to improve their day-to-day functioning.
Psychoeducation is action-oriented and rooted in daily life: it aims to understand behaviours, help the person develop strategies to cope with the challenges they face, and put concrete strategies in place within their environment (for example, at home or at school). Psychotherapy, on the other hand, is a psychological treatment intended to foster significant changes in the client that may affect, among other things, their cognitive, emotional, or behavioural functioning.
Psychoeducation services are for children, adolescents, adults, and families who experience adjustment difficulties that may affect their well-being, their social relationships, and their ability to meet their personal and professional obligations. This can include, for example, challenges related to anxiety, behaviour (opposition, aggression, hyperactivity), social relationships, motivation, or organizing daily life.
Psychoeducation services are covered by some insurance companies, including certain Canada Life plans. A receipt is provided after each session. Fees may also be eligible for a tax deduction.
Psychoéduc-ACTION's in-person services are offered in the Gatineau and Ottawa region. Virtual services are available with no geographic restriction. It is also possible to discuss travelling to your home or living environment.
The length of follow-up varies depending on several factors, such as the nature of the difficulties, the frequency of sessions, and your involvement in the process. Intervention plans generally last three to six months.
The first meeting is an opportunity to get to know one another, understand your needs, and clarify the goals of the follow-up. Together, we determine an action plan for the psychoeducation process: goals, means and strategies, roles, and timeline.
